PM – Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana

The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, launched the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana on 29th February, 2024, to increase the share of solar rooftop capacity and empower residential households to generate their own electricity.

Objectives of the Scheme

  • Achieve 1 crore rooftop solar system installations in the residential sector.
  • Provide free/low-cost electricity up to 300 units per month.
  • Produce renewable electricity of 1,000 billion units, reducing CO2 emissions by 720 million tons.
  • Develop a robust ecosystem for solar projects.
  • Boost local economy and employment.
  • Support India’s green climate commitments.

Steps to Apply for Rooftop Solar

  1. Register on the portal: Select your state, district, electricity provider, consumer account number, and mobile number.
  2. Login with your mobile number and apply.
  3. Get feasibility approval and install the plant via a registered vendor.
  4. Submit plant details and apply for a net meter.
  5. Receive commissioning certificate after inspection.
  6. Submit bank details and receive subsidy within 30 days.
